Cultural Courses

Cooking Class with Traditional Market Visit

The cooking class covers the techniques in the making and decorating of traditional Javanese dishes such as Nasi Goreng and also ethnic delicacies like kue Lumpur Telo Ungu and kue Cara Isi. The lesson starts with a becak trip to the traditional market to shop for fresh ingredients. This course takes roundly 90 minutes, and is ended by traditional Indonesian lunch. This course includes one Tugu apron as a souvenir.

Djamoe Class and Javanese Body Treatment

This course, held at the Apsara Spa, covers the traditional know-how of the making and preparation of Jamu Kunir Asam, a traditional natural elixir drink that is believed to help digestion and weight loss. In this course you will also learn of the body beauty treatments inherited from Javanese princesses. Head towards the traditional market to shop for ingredients, followed by preparation of the ingredients at the Apsara Spa. The course begins with explanation of the ingredients and its benefits for our body, and proceeds with the techniques to make the Jamu. This course includes sample of the ingredients, a bottle of Jamu, and a package of body treatment as souvenirs.

Flower Arrangement Class

To enjoy the fresh air and smell the fragrance of local flowers, we invite the guests for a walk to the flower market at 07.00 to select some certain flowers for hand and table bouquets. Then preparation of the materials will be done at the poolside, where flower arrangement course will be conducted. For about 90 minutes we will show you some techniques of flower arrangement and flower combining. The result will be placed on the breakfast dining table. Lessons are ended with typical Indonesian style breakfast and the flower arrangement can be brought home.

Shanghai Noon Sarong Class

Shanghai Noon Boutique is an exclusive contemporary fashion boutique in East Java specializing in beautiful Javanese and Chinese Peranakan clothing and well-known batik designers ; some traditional in nature and some with influences from other parts of Southeast Asia. While inside, Warong Shanghai 1920 Art & Antique Gallery is an uniquely designed antique gallery featuring very exclusive items, ranging from rare Javanese antiquities as well as other Southeast Asian artworks, tableware, textiles, statues, paintings, a wide variety of handcrafted designers’ stone and silver jewelries.

Mount Bromo Sunrise and Savannah Adventure

Mount Bromo National Park, internationally famous for its most magical sunrise, is a haven for nature lovers, with its volcano, craters and sand plateaus as well as breath-taking serene savannah. The stunning beauty of the mountain could also be experienced during the day time.

On the way back, stopover at Coban Pelangi Waterfall, one of the few unexploited secrets of East Java; a 30-meter high hidden beauty surrounded by a pine forest as well as the famous Jago temple.

Malang Temples and City Tour

Malang’s nostalgic atmosphere results from the fact that Dutch planters and civil servants used to retire here until the early 1900s. This tour includes a visit to Wonosari Tea Plantation, a vast and beautiful plantation on the slope of Mount Arjuna, where guests can witness the tea leaf picking, the process of tea-making, as well as other traditional daily activities of this tea plantation.

Inherited many ancient “candi” or temples; beautiful remains of kingdoms from many hundreds years ago, and visit is necessary to unlock the historical treasure of Malang that was once the centre of political power of the 8th century Kanjuruhan Kingdom. Even after the collapse of the Kingdom of Singosari, Malang region remained to be an important region for the following dynasties of East Java.

Experience The Nature of Malang & Batu

The cool, fresh hill town of Batu was a retreat for the Dutch in colonial days. The area is a major agricultural centre with apple orchards everywhere and a large number of tropical flowers nurseries. Its sits on the slopes of Mount Welirang and Mount Arjuna, about 20 km to the west of Malang. Coban Rondo waterfall, Selecta (a beautiful park constructed in 1928) as well as picking flowers & apples directly in the farmers’ yard will be one the highlight of your trip.

Discover The Captivating Malang on Becak Ride

Awarded as the loveliest town in South East Asia during the colonial times, Malang has its own charm attracting you to drift along in an air of nostalgia.
