Experiences

The island of Lombok, twenty minutes flight east of Bali or 2.5 hours on a speedboat across the Lombok Strait, is a hidden, unpolished jewel traditionally overshadowed by the fame of its neighboring island. While very few know about its magical and serene Sire beach with its long idyllic stretches of white sand; long and slender, wind-bent palm trees with whispering leaves… Get into the roots Lombok and Indonesian heritage, not only through our extensive on-site art collection but also through the many unique activities designed to bring you into personal contact with local traditions and nature.

Cultural Courses

TRADITIONAL LOMBOK COOKING CLASS

The cooking class is a unique lifestyle experience that speaks of hundreds years old traditions, of the beautiful humbleness and the exotic richness of Indonesian dining and cooking culture, all at the same time. The class begins with a visit to a traditional market where you will submerge into the daily Lomboknese way of living. Pick the recipes you favor most and finish with dinner experience, eating with bare hands surrounded by oil lamps, stone grinders, and traditional steamers on wood-fire terracotta stoves in the open kitchen.

DJAMOE HERBAL DRINKS CLASS

Djamoe is an ancient art of herbal healing and rejuvenation using traditional herbs and spices. Traditional djamoe comes from the island of Java and has evolved through generations. Djamoe consists of leaves, roots, flowers, and barks of significant trees. Learn the traditional way of preparing four kinds of mixture and their benefits for health, beauty, and longevity. Set in an authentic and mildly dramatized kitchen, the Djamoe Herbal Drinks Class is a step back in time to the days where kitchen and backyards also served as pharmacies.

PEARL CULTIVATION CLASS

Lombok is known for its high quality, golden ‘South-Seas’ cultured pearls, from the Gold-Lipped oysters. The island has over 24 active pearl farms, located on the south-western coast of the island, west of the towns of Sekotong Timur, Sekotong Tengah, and Lembar. The art of pearl cultivation is a long and delicate process. Learn the process of gathering the oyster, seeding, farming, and harvesting while you are in Lombok.

Excursions

OLD CITY TOUR ( HALF DAY)

This half-day tour covers some destinations in West Lombok such as Mayura, Bale Kambang (the royal floating palace of the former Balinese kingdom which was built in 1714). It will be followed by Narmada, a historical place, used to be the palace of Anak Agung Gede Ngurah, one of the Balinese kings, and was built in 1805. The antique tour continues through Pasar Seni Sayang Sayang, Bagiarti/Karang Jangkok, Pasar Sindhu/Bertais and Sesela for typical Lombok arts and crafts.

TREKKING THE WATERFALLS

Join us on an adventure through nature in search of Lombok’s most beautiful waterfalls. The glorious Tiu Pupus Waterfall tumbles 40 meters down a semi-circular sheer rock face into a deep pool. In the dry season (May-November), the water reduces and the pool comes alive with local kids wallowing and making a mud castle.

DIVING & SNORKELING
IN THE GILIS

A mere 20-minute ride onboard Tugu Lombok’s private boat, there are three small, coral-fringed islands – Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan – each with superb clear water, coral reefs and brilliantly colored fish. The islands have become popular for simple pleasures of sun, snorkeling, diving and socializing. Tour includes picnic lunch, snacks, soft drinks and mineral water.

GOLFING IN LOMBOK

For golf enthusiasts, next to Tugu Lombok is Lombok Golf Kosaido Country Club, which offers views of Mt. Rinjani in the northeast and the Gili Islands across the bay to the west. The course was masterfully designed by Peter Thompson, Michael Wolveridge & Perrett with a design philosophy deeply respecting the natural on-site contours of the land. The 18-hole championship course offers a unique, challenging, and world-class experience for golfers of all levels.

RELEASING BABY TURTLES

Protecting our planet is something we take very seriously at Tugu, but it can still be a lot of fun under the sun! Did you know that adult sea turtles lay eggs once a year and the survival rate of the baby turtles returning to the sea and reaching adulthood is 1 to 100? The program of releasing the turtle hatchlings is carried out in the most practical way, incorporating traditional values. Over the past 11 years, the locals have hatched about 4,500 sea turtle eggs and have contributed to the global conservation program of the sea turtle.

SUNSET HORSE-DRAWN BENDI RIDE

It is said that Sire Beach has one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island. Tour the local village and the surrounding breezy paddy fields on an antique horse-drawn bendi (antique carriage) cart, on horseback or on bikes.

ROMANTIC SUNRISE PICNIC BREAKFAST

The Naga Mesem boat of Hotel Tugu Lombok is inspired by romantic folklore between the goddesses of Rinjani peak and the son of the Sea Dragon. Wake up before the sunrise paints the sky with pinks and enjoy an early morning breakfast picnic to start your day with a beautiful sunrise over the Mount Rinjani, on the traditional wooden dragon head boat Naga Mesem (the smiling Dragon) for 2-hours private sunrise lavish breakfast picnic experience served by your butler as you pass by the famous Gili islands and cruise along the majestic surrounding bays.

OUTDOOR SPORTS

Join us on an adventure through nature in search of Lombok’s most beautiful nature. For those who love the idea of venturing into the road less traveled, be prepared to awake your senses and curiosity through hopping up and down rocks and streams, behold the sight of majestic forest green, and splashes of the freshwater, as you feel the adrenaline-fuelled to the top.
